Missing the Point

The City of Cape Town is in the process of passing a Bylaw banning barbed wire.

Apparently it poses a danger to passersby who may snag themselves. And there have been some complaints that it is ugly.

The City understands that barbed wire is installed to protect against criminals which the City cannot apprehend. The City also understands that there will be objections, and that the Bylaw will probably not be passed anyway. But we must understand that if we complain about unsightly security, we only have ourselves to blame. Because they tried to do something about it, didn’t they?

Hey Dusts

Have you seent he proposed new by-law about graffitti? That the home owner is responsible for cleaning it off if the council can't find the culprits. And we all know how efficient the council has been in tracking down graffitti artists so far, right? So unless the resident is indigent, they carry the costs. What I see happening here is that ... nothing changes! The wealthier suburbs will paint it off themselves and the council will leave it on the walls of the poorer suburbs.

Yup clare

I heard that too. What happens if the owner doesn't clean it off? Will the owner be prosecuted?

Hey, I've got an idea!

This morning's paper says that the DA will bring back prison labour if they win the election next year. I vote the first job is graffitti duty. That should keep a couple of hundred convicts busy for the next few years.

The remaining convicts can stand sentry duty at barbed wire fences to make sure that passing idiots don't impale themselves.

They'll probably

Just add it to your rates bill and then ccut off your water when you don't pay. But I like your idea for the prison workers, that and picking up the dog poop of inconsiderate trolls.

but but but

that would make it troll poop, wouldn't it.

Focus, Clare. Just focus.

um

i kinda like good graffiti.

And Dex

The by-law allows for people to register as graffitti artists and they'll be given commissions from the city. See? All taken care of.

cool...

CT is clearly full of awesomeness.

Graffiti

all they have to do is ensure that all Graffitti artists use water colours. In Cape Town hahahaha.

yeah!

just think about it - after every rainstorm, the city would look different.

Good graffitti

in the right places is awesome.

But it's those irritating tags all over street signs and trains and things that bring out the Mother Grundy in me.
