The human race is degenerating as a specie. We are just a bunch of animals. We watch the global unity of the Olympics as Russia invades Georgia, after Georgia attacked Ostenia. India attacks Kashmir. Pakistan’s president is being impeached as Al Queda encourages Muslims and Pakistani’s to rise up and fight against the US and the west. Zim talks collapse. The oil price sky rockets. The rand falls. When will it end? What hope does the human race have, when the level of enlightenment of the world's leaders only serves to create war?

'The world is a beautiful place' by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

The world is a beautiful place
to be born into
if you don't mind people dying
all the time
or maybe only starving
some of the time
which isn't half so bad
if it isn't you
oh the world is a beautiful place
to be born into
if you don't much mind
a few dead minds
in the higher places
or a bomb or two
now and then
in your upturned faces
or other improprieties
as our Name Brand society
is prey to
with its men of distinction
and its men of extinction
and its priests
and other patrolmen
and its various segregations
and congressional investigations
and other constipations
that our foolish flesh
is heir to

Fluts

I'm more concerned that it species not specie. I know. I suck.

Clare

You've "engaged" with other species?
Shew!

Dirty Fluts

I have no idea what you're insinuating.

If you really want to know how bad we are, and have always been, read Collapse by Jared Diamond - very interesting look at the rise and fall of a whole lot of "civilisations" through ancient and modern history... He also - thankfully - gives some examples of societies that have triumphed over environmental adversity and offers insight and hope for the future. But of course enough people all over the world have to wake up before anything will be able to change...

Marijayn

Will look our for that book - it sounds amazing.

If the world's leaders, who are supposed to be the countries greatest minds, don't buy into it, how can we expect the masses to? That's the scary thing.

There is a flaw in your argument somewhere, I just can't work out where...

Hysterical GaryM

The Thabo & Zuma ones are very apt.

scary

yes that is the scary thing
but it is also scary how many people also don't really buy into it... small things like recycling, making compost out of kitchen waste, not driving alone, i dunno, there's a whole lot of things that we could be doing on a small scale but how many of us do? those that try are often considered cranks or freaks!

Ja Marijayn

It is about the small things we find so hard to do. Perhaps we could all just teach our kids to give a shit. After all they will inherit this place one day.
