A dreadful accident

You may or may not have heard about the incident in Pietermaritzburg where a baby was accidentally run over and killed by the owner of a crèche.

The owner of the crèche is a family friend. I cannot even begin to imagine what those parents are going through. They had a baby after trying for 17 years and she was with them for 9 months before being taken away in this freak accident.

My heart goes out to them – the other children who are injured, the parents of the dead baby and the owner of the crèche and her family.

I sympathise with everyone - it is terrible, but I have to wonder what the babies are doing near the car to begin with. There is a perceived element of negligence here that worries me. I don't know all the facts so I will reserve judgement. I am not the most objective person when it comes to kids.

She apparently converted her garage into a play area for the children. They were playing in the garage and her husband parked his car on the driveway just outside the garage. Her driveway is on an incline. The little child that died was in her walking ring exploring the place and wanting to give her more space to play, she decided to move her hubby's car. I agree though, there does seem to be a certain level of negligence although it was a nasty accident.

Sad indeed but it seems like things are just getting worse for her. I hope she can make it through this although its not going to be easy.

That is horrible! What a tragic accident. Regrettably, I fear that the woman may be prosecuted.

It was on the front page of yesterday's Cape Times. It made my blood run cold.

What a terrible, terrible tragedy. Something that anyone involved with the incident will never ever forget.

It was a terribly accident. I think they are all going through hell right now. I know she is. She is totally devastated. She is not sure if she is going to be prosecuted or not and then there are the other kids. She was trying to move her husbands car and engaged the wrong gear. The children where playing in the garage, which she converted to a play-pen, and instead of reversing she accelerated into all 10 of them.
