Capitalistic Redemption Kak

After finishing the whole leg of lamb alone
He threw the bone to his mangy dog
The neighbour’s mongrel crawled through the fence
A fierce fight broke out over the bone

He drew the attention of his neighbours
To the fracas in his yard
Urged them to bet on which cur would win
The battle over the dry morsel

Shame on you some neighbours said
Others said this is good fun
And cheered the vicious brutes on
As they savaged one another

At the end of the shameful fight
He gathered the bloodied loser
Into the crook of his protective arm
And solicited money for a Vet

The neighbours dug deep into their pockets
When the hat was passed around
He was quite pleased with himself
For the generosity he had aroused

He took the dog to the Vet
Who pulled it from the brink of death
He went back to his fawning neighbours
Who sang his praises forever and ever.

people who treat animals like this, are barely animals themselves.

Chilling. Damning. Unbelievably sad. At this point I am at a loss for word though....
