A thesis on procastination
True masters of the art know that procrastination, the work of ‘putting-aside’, is never the surrender to inactivity. Instead, it is always also a ‘putting-before’ of a ‘something-else’. This ‘something-else’ might be related to the original task, as in, for instance, a ‘something-else’ that is pursued with the belief that it would enrich that which is put aside (drawing mind maps or arranging stationery are good examples of this kind of ‘putting-before’). Alternatively the ‘something-else’ could be completely unrelated to that which is ‘put-aside’. For this category of ‘putting-before’, however, what is absolutely essential is that the ‘something-else’ obtain a degree of use value; for while the ‘something-else’ might be judged unnecessary without calling into question the act of ‘putting-aside’, if it were judged use-less the ‘something-else’ would lose all ground on the terrain of procrastination, descending definitively into the realm of laziness. Thus, if for the first category of ‘putting-before’ the use value of the ‘something-else’ is a function of its relation to that put aside, the second category of ‘putting-before’ must seek out an independent source of value, or would need to be a ‘something-else’ use-full ‘in-and-of-itself’ A thesis on procrastination is a good example of this category of ‘putting-before’
