Blood

“Well, 35 years of being together,” said Jessica with hands on hips, her red curly hair misbehaving. It was standing out from her head like a tree full of bird nests. The tangled mess enraged Richard and had done so for decades; he wanted to reach out and hit her.

“Yeah, let’s just call it quits. I fucking hate you,” replied Richard, barely refraining from pulling her red mop and kicking her freckly, white shins.

Jessica grinned; “You are a cunt and you always have been. We only kept this pretence up for mom and dad.”

So, the two siblings turned their backs and left the room. Adopted children with no genetic link, nothing in common and the final parent in his grave, they had nothing more to say to each other.

So they didn’t.

I reckon

even family is a choice. A harder one. And more fraught. But a choice.

I've done the opposite. Chosen non-blood to be my heart-blood.

But from the tone, KC, you seem perturbed (or am I off target)? Did you hope they'd keep trying?

dolce -

nope.

i am not judgmental over their decision. people do what they do. it just struck me that if my brother and i were left and our parents dead, we would still be close.

these two decided that they could care less; despite a life lived in the same house being raised by the same people.

blood is thicker than water - that's all.

kc

couldn't agree more, blood is thicker than water.

it will be a ricki lake moment for them in a few years when either one is lost or in despair they shall seek for each other...

Nah Ally

I disagree - having experienced difference between 'blood' siblings and adopted ones, I can tell you this - if they don't like each other after all the years, they probably have no bond other than having been forced to grow up together.

dex - i suspect you are right

i don't think there will be a "moment" in the future.

these two totally detest eachother and do not in any way understand each other. it is an interesting thing to watch unfold.

it's not even unresolved issues or ancient squabbles.

Yep KC

it's just two people who would have not had anything to do with one another if they'd met some other way. Growing up under the same roof doesn't change anything.

hold up kc

i know siblings that are related by blood and every rady to kill each other...

some how kids always forget through their selfish thinking that it's the parents that fall victim to this shit.

oh - this is not MY drama

an observation merely of two people i know well.

my brother and i are close.

Eina, KC

I won't elaborate, but, ja. Have been close to this type of thing...
